The regional teams are the first point of contact for the NAS in each region. The teams:

  • support NAS Branches in their activities, which can include providing support to parents and family members of children and adults with autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs), organising fundraising and awareness-raising activities, and lobbying for better provision from their local authority
  • work in partnership with other local parents' groups, whether or not they are affiliated to the NAS, to help them in their activities
  • work with representatives from the local authorities in the regions, raising awareness about the needs of people with autistic spectrum disorders and their families, giving advice about provision, sitting on inter-agency forums and working parties
  • facilitate regional conventions, consisting of representatives from local Branches and other parents' groups and professionals who are involved in provision or research relating to people with ASDs; these forums provide a strong, broad-based voice for autism in each region
  • facilitate 'Partners in Autism', a forum for major autism-specific providers to devlop a joint regional plan for future services and support
  • represent the NAS on a variety of campaigning and lobbying organisations across the voluntary and disability sectors
  • are involved in developing and managing specific projects, which often involves bidding for tenders and grants from local authorities' Joint Finance funds, the National Lottery funds and other organisations
  • sometimes provide training on behalf of our training department, and provide consultancy to other organisations working with people with autism.

Further information about how the NAS is organised can be read by following the link entitled 'About the NAS' at the bottom of this page.
