| About the NAS Lorna Wing Centre for Autism |
The NAS Lorna Wing Centre for Autism is an assessment service for children, adolescents and adults with complex social and communication disorders throughout the UK. Training courses are available for professionals in the use of the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders (DISCO) for diagnosis and assessment. |
| Referrals and assessment |
The centre deals mainly with referrals of children and adults with an autism spectrum disorder who may also have other conditions. The centre staff aim to give as much help as they can to all those seen, including those who do not have an autism disorder. |
| The Centre staff |
The staff at the centre are fully experienced with clients of all ages from early childhood, through adolescence, adult life and old age. They are equally experienced in all ranges of abilities from severe learning disorder to very high IQ. |
| The Diagnostic Interview (DISCO) |
The DISCO facilitates understanding of a pattern of skills and impairments that underlie behaviour. The findings are helpful for children and adults of any age, for any level of ability and for any manifestation of the autism spectrum. It can also assist in identifying associated conditions. |
| Diagnosis & assessment: training for professionals |
The centre offers training courses for professionals in the use of the Diagnostic Interview for Social and Communication Disorders (DISCO) for diagnosis and assessment. Courses have been run in countries outside the UK both in Europe, Asia and Australia. The DISCO has been translated into Japanese, Swedish and Dutch. |
